IMT Hyderabad as a member of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI)

IMT Hyderabad, 5th August 2025: The Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Hyderabad is pleased to announce its membership in the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI). This prestigious bi-national organization, established through mutual proclamation of the Governments of India and Canada, promotes academic exchange between the two countries. This milestone marks a vital step in IMT Hyderabad’s international engagement and affirms its excellence in management and technology education.

SICI comprises 156 Indian and 36 Canadian institutions and has championed Indo-Canadian academic partnerships for over five decades. It encourages impactful research, collaboration between students and faculty, and cultural exchanges across disciplines such as management, technology, and social sciences.

This collaboration will enable the institute to engage with international academic networks, support interdisciplinary research, and participate in global development initiatives. The SICI network continues to grow, offering new grant-based opportunities to institutions like IMT Hyderabad.

Through this partnership, the institute’s students and faculty can now access a wide array of prestigious SICI grants and scholarships. For students, this includes the Shastri Student Research in India Fellowships (SSRIF), which supports research projects in India for Canadian students, fostering binational academic ties; the Mitacs-SICI Globalink Research Award (GRA), which funds short-term research internships in Canada for Indian students; and the Shastri Scholar Travel Subsidy Grants (SSTSG), offering financial assistance for travel to Canada for academic conferences and research. Students can also benefit from the Shastri Student Internship in India (SSII) Project, which promotes experiential learning through hands-on internships in India for Canadian students, and the Shastri Best Research Paper Award, recognizing outstanding research in various disciplines.

For faculty, key opportunities include the Shastri Institutional Collaborative Research Grant (SICRG), which supports joint research projects between Indian and Canadian institutions; the Shastri Faculty Collaboration and Internationalization (SFCI) Project, aimed at enhancing faculty exchange programs and curriculum development; the Shastri Conference & Lecture Series Grant (SCLSG), which funds academic conferences, workshops, and seminars to promote knowledge exchange; and the Shastri Mobility Programme (SMP), designed to facilitate short-term faculty visits for collaborative teaching and research.

Prof (Dr) Baharul Islam, Director of IMT Hyderabad, stated, “We are deeply thankful to SICI for welcoming IMT Hyderabad into this esteemed network. This membership is a testament to our commitment to global academic excellence and will provide our students and faculty with transformative opportunities for research, scholarships, and cross-cultural learning in Canada. We look forward to actively contributing to SICI’s mission of strengthening Indo-Canadian intellectual ties.”

Prof (Dr) Steven Raj, Chairperson, Postgraduate Programs, mentioned, “Joining SICI marks a significant milestone in IMT Hyderabad’s journey toward global academic excellence. This partnership will provide our students and faculty unparalleled opportunities for research collaborations, scholarships, and international exposure in Canada. We are excited to leverage SICI’s extensive network to foster innovation and cross-cultural learning.”

This achievement further strengthens the institute’s global affiliations, including AACSB, EFMD, UN-PRME, and ITU, positioning the institute as one that nurtures globally conscious, future-ready professionals.
