“What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like.”
~ Saint Augustine (November 13, 0354 – August 28, 0430)
Successful people have a social responsibility to make the world a better place and not just take from it. That’s the mantra which Pahel follows. “PAHEL” stands for “People for Advocacy of Health, Environment & Literacy”, the Corporate Social Responsibility club of IMT-H – The purpose of the club is to strengthen network and linkages amongst students, the community, socially responsible corporate, NGOs and other formal and informal institutions. Corporate social responsibility is not an obligation for the students at IMT Hyderabad, it’s an honour.
PAHEL, this year started with a bang. A life may depend on a gesture from you, a bottle of Blood. With this attitude and a lot of zeal, PAHEL flagged off the semester with a blood donation campaign organized inside the college premises. The whole campus was excited and everyone wanted to contribute and be a part of this noble cause. There were 100 donors. Accidents and medical emergencies don’t take holidays—we need blood every day of the year, every minute, and every second of our lives. PAHEL infused this ideology among all the students and the response was overwhelming. The doctors, nurses and other trained professionals who were brought in made sure that the entire process took place under watchful eyes of a pro.
This year, the world zoomed with the Ice bucket challenge. We at IMT Hyderabad decided to instead have a Rice bucket challenge. As an alternative to the Ice Bucket Challenge, the Rice Bucket Challenge served the dual purpose of highlighting water scarcity (in that the use of ice was considered expensive and wasteful) and poverty (in that a bucket of rice was considered a valuable donation by recipients). Young students from a nearby orphanage were invited to have a day of fun, frolic and entertainment and Team PAHEL along with the entire student fraternity made sure that we make every effort that not a single child ever goes hungry. 300 Kgs of rice was donated by Team PAHEL, along with these events made sure that we do our bit in helping devotees pray to the almighty in better and a more convenient way. Collective donations from the students were given to the kids of Om Sai Sevashree Ashrama on Children’s day. We believe in humanity and honored the victims of deadly school attack in Peshawar by lighting candles and prayed for their divine souls.
We plan to take our club and our college to further new heights. We intend to organize a marathon to ensure physical and mental nurturing of all participants. The goal, make sure that in this festive mode, we bring a smile to each face. Love is our most unifying and empowering common spiritual denominator. We, Team PAHEL stand by this and work day in and day to spread love and care, for humanity has no boundaries.
